Ethics Code

Ethics is the constant analysis of what is right and wrong in relation to our own thoughts and actions. Our life experiences and morals help to shape our own personal ethical codes. It is important to me to define my own ethical code in relation to my educational and occupational goals, particularly in the field of journalism, a field which revolves around a duty to the public.

In all professional matters I promise...

  • To do what I believe to be morally right.

  • To accept responsibility for the outcome of all my actions, whether or not the outcome is good or bad.

  • To report and tell the truth, and strive to make sure everything I present as fact is verified.

  • To avoid and resist temptation to break from my code, no matter the reason.

  • To be unbiased in my fact gathering and presentation of facts to the public.

  • To be fair to the best of my ability and push for fairness whenever I see a lack of it.

  • To avoid reporting or presenting what I know to be falsehoods or untrue information.

  • To do my best to avoid manipulation from outside people or entities so that I may continue to adhere to the tenants of my code.

  • To avoid conflicts of interest and act independently so that my reporting may remain unimpeded by outside forces.

  • To report independently and present independently without the intent to influence.

  • To only exercise as much power as necessary to remain uninfluenced and unmanipulated so that my main duties and responsibilities will continue to be to the public.
